Cabinet Portraits produced by James Russell & Sons between 1881 and 1890

[ABOVE] A cabinet portrait of a woman holding a book, photographed by James Russell & Sons of 65 East Street, Chichester. The branch studio at Southsea is also mentioned at the foot of the cabinet (c1889). [ABOVE] The publicity printed on the reverse of the cabinet portrait illustrated on the left. On the cabinet card, James Russell & Sons, Portrait & Landscape Photographers of 65 East Street, Chichester are described as "Photographers to Her Majesty the Queen" and the Prince and Princess of Wales (c1889). The card was printed by Marion and Co. of Paris.

[ABOVE] The publicity printed on the reverse of the cabinet portrait illustrated on the right.  In addition to the details of the kings, queens, emperors, empresses, dukes, princes and princesses who had sat for the firm of  J. Russell & Sons, the card also provides the London studio addresses in Baker Street and Brecknock Road in North London. The card was printed by W. Herrmann and Co. of Berlin. [ABOVE] A cabinet portrait of a bearded clergyman, photographed by James Russell & Sons of  17 Baker Street, London, Portman Square, London W. and 49 Brecknock Road, Camden Road, North London. The details given at the foot of the cabinet portrait describe Russell & Sons as "Photographers to H. M. The Queen" (c1889).
