[ABOVE] A postcard format photograph of staff and holidaymakers at The Glastonbury, a boarding house located at 5,6 & 7 Royal Parade, Eastbourne, photographed by George Austin of 70 Seaside, Eastbourne on 28th September 1909. Card post-marked Eastbourne, 9th Oct. 1909. Mabel, the young lady who sent the card, stands at the extreme right on the balcony above.

Between 1911 and 1915, the proprietors of the boarding house at 39 & 40 Royal Parade were listed as Misses Alice & Kate Dale.

 [LEFT] A detail of the postcard pictured above, showing a close-up view of some of the holidaymakers assembled at the entrance to York House in Royal Parade, Eastbourne. York House was a boarding establishment that spanned 15-19 Royal Parade, Eastbourne. In 1911, the proprietor of the boarding house at 15 to 19 Royal Parade was Mrs S. C. Williams. The buildings that formed York House are now part of the Best Western hotel chain. Today (2009) the Best Western York House Hotel occupies 14 to 22 Royal Parade, Eastbourne.

[RIGHT] A detail of the postcard above showing a close-up view of the group of men on the left of the picture. As Brian Partridge has observed, these men in flat-caps were possibly a party of Yorkshiremen on holiday in Eastbourne.
